Engine No Power
This bit of diagnosing information will help you with your problem.
I have had this happen to me 3 times. 73 Ford LTD 400cc , 93 E-350 4.8L, 94 E-350 4.8L. This can apply to any engine with a distributor.
Symptoms; No power on engine at wide open throttle. You don't feel engine torque when snapping throttle coming off from a stop.
Root of problem; Distributor gear roll pin has broken and mechanical timing at distributor is off.
Diagnose; Put cylinder #1 at Top Dead Center ( TDC ). Remove distributor cap and check rotor. Make sure it is pointing dead on distributor cap cylinder #1 terminal ( See image ). Distributor cap should have a number "1" marking on top ( See image 2 ). If rotor is not pointing dead on cylinder #1 terminal you have found your problem ( make sure you are on TDC. Going further, try to rotate the rotor with your hand and with little effort you will be able to rotate it. This means roll pin has broken.
Solution; Go to you local auto parts store and buy an assorted roll pin pack. On a budget, it will cost $5 - $7 to buy pack of roll pins, no need to buy a distributor.
Hope this helps.
Distributor rotor not pointing to dead on cylinder 1 terminal.
Number "1" marking referencing cylinder #1 terminal.
