Where are you guys getting hardware for your frame components and body?! I need the bolts for the can mount brackets and spring towers along with leaf spring hangers.
Just about any hardware store will have a good assortment of nuts and bolts for fairly cheap. When it comes to suspension or chassis hardware I've always used grade 8. Plus most grade 8 is zinc-plated(the golden color) giving it good corrosion resistance to handle the abuse of the elements.
If its anything for the frame or suspension I would stay far away from the big box stores or hardware discount sources. A lot of their hardware is inferior no matter what its graded at. JH stamp on the bolt head has proven to be one of the very worst we have ever come across. And it's sold regularly in the big box stores.
What we have found to be one of the very best is hardware with a "LE" stamp. That's produced by the Lake Erie bolt co. and they seem to have high quality control standards.
Do a search for "bolt head marker identification" and you'll find a wealth of good information.
But, in order to do this you have to be as **** as me when it comes to quality of hardware.
I use my local Tractor Supply store. They have Grade 5 and Grade 8 nuts, bolts. They also sell them by the pound instead of by the each which is cheaper. I will Never use my local fastenal store ever again. They have changed their policy about how you pay. I know I'm old fashioned but that's how I am. They do Not take paper money or coins anymore. It's credit or debit or a check. The chip in your hand is just right around the corner and I'm Not doing that either.
Check out AMK Products They have all types of automotive restoration fasteners. They also have master kits with all the fasteners for a complete restoration all bagged and tagged for each sub assembly . I bought a master kit for my 69 crewcab.

So the big box stores bolts are inferior? Granted your not going to buy your rod or head bolts there but I would like to see some other situations of parts falling off.

I would be interested in more info on this. I check strength on bolts and find the factor of safety is usually so high grade 5 box store (farm and home stores) fit 90% of my needs. Is there a problem with the quality? I would assume a grade 5 or 8 bolt not meeting the SAE standards would be lawsuit material.
If you are referring to the bolts with no marks that the 'home' supply stores like to sell I completely agree. If the bolt has no markings I assume it is no better than a zip tie haha.
