Not true, You have to have 2 keys to program the 3rd. I know several people who have like 4-6 keys programmed.

I bought an OE new one off Amazon. I keep forgetting to take it to the dealer for programming. Need to just keep it in the truck to remind myself.

Lift up the seat to access the storage bin under it. In the very back, there should be a place to put the dead key.

I just programmed a spare intelligent key (my 3rd) yesterday for my 2017. Local locksmith cut the flat key for $10.

Picked up the spare OEM FOB from Car and Truck Remotes

Thanks for the link! I just ordered a spare fob from them and it was decent price. I then found these steps to properly program the new fob:

Step-by-Step Smart Key Fob Programming Instructions
  1. Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 1PLACE the first programmed smart key in the backup slot in the center console.

The key ring MUST be at the top with the buttons facing toward the rear of the vehicle.
  2. Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 2WAIT 5 seconds and PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle.
  3. Confirm First Programmed Smart Key – Step 3REMOVE the first programmed key from the center console.
  4. Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 1Within 10 seconds, PLACE the second programmed smart key in the backup slot in the center console.
  5. Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 2PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle.
  6. Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 3WAIT 5 seconds and PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle AGAIN.
  7. Confirm Second Programmed Smart Key – Step 4REMOVE the second programmed key from the center console.
  8. Program New Smart Key – Step 1WAIT 5 seconds and PLACE the NEW un-programmed smart key in the backup slot in the center console.
  9. Program New Smart Key – Step 2PRESS the START/STOP button on the vehicle.
  10. Test RemotesTEST all remotes. Programming is complete.

Correct and you need both factory keys to program the third one. I keep the 2 factory key fobs stored in a anti-signal pouch and use the 3rd one for daily use.

All hog wash on my 19 350 Lariat! First off the orientation for the fob into the slot has it with buttons facing front NOT back. That’s the only way it will fit. So beginning of those instructions don’t work in my truck. I have gone through this procedure over and over and it never works to program my 3rd key. It’s very frustrating
