Another good question. How much rust and decay is around or on your fuel lines coming up from pump? Could be a leak in the actual line it self. Rare but possible.

I've had my lines come loose three times on different trucks. I assume the road vibration causes that - when they're not sufficiently tight, or maybe over time - like a couple of years after replacing the blue spring. Based on the volume of fuel he's describing, that's exactly what I'd suspect. When mine blew, there was plenty of fuel. I caught it once just a few miles down the road. Another time, I drove for miles, losing lots of fuel along the way. It was all over the car on my trailer. The third time, the line separated so much the truck died. Put it back together roadside and got it started, but it took several miles at highway speed before all the air got out of the system. I'd think the regulator cover gasket would, instead, cause the typical slow drip.
