December 2020 Chat Thread

Happy Holidays!!
It started to flurry on the way home. I got home and my son was in a thick jacket, gloves and hat and was wanting to go out and have a snowball fight. We had very accumulation but had enough to make a few extremely small snowballs. He kept saying he loved snow. I hope we do get a little bit this year so he can have some fun.

No accumulation on the ground here, but we did have a little on the steps and cars. That north wind was cold last night. The electric bill is probably going through the roof right now.

Little to none here either but we had to scrape it off the cars and steps to make the super small snowballs. He asked me tonight if it was going to snow tomorrow. I am sure the power bill is going to be out of this world. We have almost everything we need to work on inside the shop so opening the bay doors should be minimal. Plugged in the block heater on the motorhome just to be safe, can never be too careful.

I think the interview went well, they asked if I was interested in a service advisor position. I told them I would be. Fingers crossed they offer me a position.
Called office of personnel management and asked they what the status of my retirement pay was,.They just given it to a person on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They have had it since October, good god they are slow.

Never heard back from the car dealership. I have a few more applications floating around and will see how that plays out. I reached out to one of my past coworkers at the CAT dealership. He knows some of the higher ups and going to see if he can maybe kick start me getting back in. There is another CAT place that is a different company about 45 minutes away in Alabama I am thinking about applying too. Really wanted to go automotive but I could go back construction again.

It has been a busy month for us so far. The 30/1 we drove to Fl packed up our son and came home did not get back till almost midnight. Got up Wednesday morning unload the car from dolly took it back, unload the truck. Had a nerve test at 1 in Macon. the freezer went out the same day then church. Friday went up to Mom's to get some Christmas stuff and talk to her about this house did not go well. Debra fell thru the floor of the shed. The house thing was terrible. Saturday we laid some of the living room floor so we could put up our new Christmas tree.
We have been discussing not moving. We have decided to stay in this area, we thought of this house. We have too many friends and very active in the church. Well, the visit to moms changed part of that. This house will never be in my name. When she dies my sister will force us to sell or give her money.

Hope the wife is OK, Pouring time and money into something that won't be yours is kinda hard, at least for me.
I have a phone interview today at 5 today, fingers crossed it goes well. Still have hope I will hear from one or two others I applied at but not holding my breath. One place I applied is for a tech at the local Ford place.

I had a phone interview yesterday and it went extremely well. He is calling me back on Friday to continue with the process. The job I interviewed for is for a technician job at Goodyear tire place about an hour away, they have a store in Rome which is a lot closer and seeing if he can maybe get me into that store. Talked to my boss yesterday because he knows what I am doing and come to find out he is dropping his 2 week notice the first week of January.

An new tech at a car dealership position opened up this morning and I applied. They sent me an email a little later on asking for a reference to fill it out. I sent it to my boss. He promptly filled it out and he sent it back to them. Within 15 minutes they were calling me and wanting to set up an interview for tomorrow afternoon!! I was talking with the service manager and come to find out he is also retired military. I have a good feeling about tomorrow. I am so ready for a change.

Sounds like a whole bunch of mismanagement in big green. I told Debra that you were looking to go back to wrenching instead of the service manager. Her reply it must be bad

Last week the division president pretty much told my boss that he and I were being watched and the next few months would determine our job status at the company.

Yesterday on the way home my corporate service boss called me and raised hell that I closed a work order wrong. I coded it wrong and cost the company money and blah, blah blah blah. I went it this morning and fixed it to the right code and it ended being a $121 dollar difference. He was saying it was 7 or 8 hundred dollars that I cost the company and I should have known better. Anyway that's was yesterdays drama. You can never do enough to please these people.

On to better news I interviewed this afternoon and I GOT A NEW JOB!!
One of the Ford places turned me down and the Ford place has never responded. So after 36 years I am back working at a GM place. Everyone works on everything but they also want to teach me how to rebuild transmissions. It feels like a huge burden has been lifted off of me. Next Friday I take the drug test and start on the 11th of January.
