Electrical Gremlin

Rather than give the full shake down on my multiple issues just yet.... can anyone help identify the item/function of the part inside the ignition switch. Plastic part fell out of the female portion of the ignition switch (on the steering column) when I removed the shifter column cover. Wire is black (BLK) with purple/violet (VIO) stripe with a small contact. I can not find it in my electrical drawings (Chiltons). Pictures show both the plastic part as found (out of place) and placed back in. However the locking plastic 'tab' appears to be broken and will not stay in it's designated location.

AS FOUND

WHERE IT GOES

HOW IT FITS

Function is to drive you crazy, it is the key in, door open dinger. Disabling it is the very first thing i did to mine while on the dealer lot in 2000.

Yup, just remove the cover under the steering column and find the wire harness coming from the steering column. Find the black wire with purple stripe and cut it. No more ding, ding, ding.
