I pulled the codes on my ABS (light on constantly, doesn't need to move) and got pretty much every error code known to ABS systems: C1198, C1214, C1206, C1194, C1210, C1202, C1095. Reset and it fired all the codes again. Is there an ABS FAQ I can use to try to debug this? It seems there is some kind of electrical failure or just a general failure of the ABS control unit. It'd be nice to not have to just throw parts at the problem to see what magically fixes it. This is a 1999 E350 camper shell, by the way. TIA!
Chances are the ABS electronic control module itself has failed. Does the pump run constantly whether key on or off?
That many codes showing all at once could also be one of the connectors to the ABS unit has developed issues---carefully disconnect it and look for terminal corrosion etc.
There would also be a pinpoint diagnosis routine or procedure published in the Work Shop Manual for your year, make and model.
Holy smokes, has anyone been able to take out the abs control module let alone play with the plugs on these E350's? Good grief that thing is buried in there.
Removing and setting aside the degas bottle is my usual approach when accessing something in that general area. It doesn't have to be emptied or its lower hose disconnected, it will move towards the passenger (right) side without too much hassle. Three 8mm headed bolts and its loose.
