Adjusting Door Hinges
let me start by admitting I am a complete bonehead. I also couldn’t find any threads on this specifically but if there is one, please send the link.
2015 F150 super crew cab. Roughly 80k miles.
the other day I’m driving and notice a strange noise. Over the next couple days I pinpoint it to the top edge of the driver door - seems like wind is rushing in enough to “push” the weather stripping and make it “flutter”. Seemed like maybe the door was rattling a small amount on rough roads. If I pulled the interior handle, I could hold the door shut extra tight and the noise went away.
so today I go to adjust my hinge and bring the door tighter to the cab. No matter what adjustments I make (upper and lower bolts from hinge to door) The door now sags at the top rear corner of the door. So where the front door meets the back door, at the corner where the top meets the cab roofline - I know have a huge drop/gap. I cannot seem to get the door back to how it was before.
any advice on how to align the door? I know the procedure and have the FSM but nothing seems to put it in the right spot. Also- after doing all this I read that this was a common problem and could very well just have been the weather stripping and not the hinge/door alignment at all- which is why I feel like a bonehead
I had a friend come over today to help adjust and hold and tighten everything. then it was quick to get the door re-aligned to the previous position. My buddy held the door and adjusted based on how I could see it was lined up before. From the inside/door jamb and I then fine tuned the alignment then torqued the bolts and it shut perfectly. Didn’t notice as much wind noise but I do plan to reinforce the weather stripping to ensure I don’t have to deal with it in the future.
Then you can try this trick from about a decade ago. Credit goes to a member here, EpicCowlick, who is mostly found in The Super Duty section.
Thanks again.
