Heating

Have a 95 F250 XLT. I'm having heating problems. A new thermostat was installed hoping that was the problem. Am still getting warm air but not enough to keep the windshield from freezing up. After running for at least an hour both hoses to the heater are the same temp. They are hot. I have removed the radiator cap while the engine was running and there did not appear to be any built up pressure meaning no coolant left the system at the first click of the cap and when the cap was removed, coolant was at the correct level but did not appear to be moving through the radiator as I would expect it to. The vaccum hose to the door/flap was also recently replaced and I can move air from defrost to mix to floor.

Any suggestions?

As I'm a total non computer user. I hope to be able to find your answers when sent. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I'd look into the heater box and make sure a mouse did not build a next in there.... Verify the air intake on your blower motor is clear and the blower motor is running.

Hobo,

Truck is driven almost daily. I guess a mouse could be the source of the problem but it is unlikely. Also, the system does produce air volumn just not hot air. Only warm which is enough on a cool day, but when it starting snowing or is cold the system can't keep up with the need. When you say heater box, I"m guessing you're talking about the box on the firewall behind the glove box?

Thanks your suggestion.

Yes okay but how hot are they? Can you hold onto them or will doing so burn to high heaven?

Alloro,

Thanks for your post. I firmly gripped both hoses for about 5 seconds. Felt further contact could create body damage.

Alloro,

Did a retest and was able to hold onto both hoses for over 20 seconds and could have held on longer. Also had my wife step on the gas peddle will the radiator cap was off, some movement in coolant flow.

it sounds to me like the blend door is stuck in heater bypass.

The temperature pushes 190 degrees, so if you can hold it that long the coolant isn't getting hot enough. It might be time for a coolant flush and/or a new thermostat.
