87 heat problem

87 heat problem
My 87 xlt just is not blowing hot like every other bronco or ford truck does. The engine gets up to temp just fine and the heater core and thermostat are new last summer. The fan doesn't quite blow as hard as it should I think. Any ideas? I definatly have cold air coming in thru the doors due to no plastic under the panels. I'm going to fix that this weekend...

So are you just not getting hot air from the system? Is there warm/hot air from the vents? If not, check your coolant level. Check the level IN the RADIATOR with the engine cold. If the level is too low in the rest of the system, the system won't siphon to and from the reservoir leaving air in the system. Since air will rise in a fluid, the air will seek out the highest point in the system. Typically, this would be the heater core. Sometimes, you can hear coolant gurgling in the core if the coolant level hasn't dropped too far yet.

Then its air in the system. Refill it at the radiator. Let the truck run with the cap off the radiator while it warms up. That way when the thermostat opens you can re-check the coolant level and make sure the system is as full as it can be. Once the thermostat opens and you have topped it off, replace the radiator cap and top off the reservoir to the "full hot" mark. Keep an eye on it for a few days afterward just to make certain the system stays full.
