I would love to have a supercab or even just real 4doors. This is my daily driver/work truck for 15 years. I put a single rear wheel bed on it a couple years ago. I no longer use a crossover tool box. I might paint my 76 white to match
I use my truck as a truck although not as often since the world ended. I was building sets for children’s theater and most of the set pieces are around 4’x8’ and will fit with the tailgate up and the canopy door down. A few months ago, I dragged home 25+ 12’ 5/4 cedar deck boards and almost as many 14’ 2x10s. I don’t dislike short boxes but see no use for them myself. I’m currently considering trading in the ‘74 for a 2011 F150 long box SuperCab with a canopy. It’s not as cool but nothing leaks on the 2011 and everything leaks on the ‘74.
I use my truck for light duty homeowner stuff like hauling yard waste or hardware store runs. Otherwise, it’s basically a fun cruiser and feels like a lifted hot rod. It also fits in my garage which is nice.
I totally respect and understand the need for a long bed but I’m just not one of those owners.
My first and only vehicle for a while was my '83 F150 with a long bed. I never much liked the proportions of a standard cab short bed truck so I was glad to have it. It's nice to be able to haul sheets of stuff without having to leave the tailgate down. Once I got my '11 Ranger, I had to adjust to not only having a short bed, but also a narrower bed. I do like it though, it's plenty enough truck for daily use and it can still haul quite a bit of weight, it's just not the set of keys I grab if I'm going to buy drywall. I still have the F150 for the medium size jobs, and I ended up putting wooden stake-side racks around the bed so I can haul large amounts of trash and brush. I will add a new wrinkle into the discussion though: Short beds work for some folks, long beds for others... but also owning the F350 ex-UHaul with a 12' box on it sure suits my needs sometimes, hah!
One think i didnt think of islot of guys around here used the standard cab short bed for snowplow trucks. They were good for small driveways and had a good Turing radius. I think that's alot of the reason 4x4 short beds are hard to fine around here.
