Remote Starter

Im new to this part of the site. I'm usually in the Superduty pages looking for stuff for my truck. Well today I'm looking for a remote starter for my wife's Explorer. It's a 2003 Explorer and I'm super particular so I want the Ford remote starter with the key fob that looks like the factory keyless entry fob.

I'm not big on letting others touch the truck and thus I want to install it. Also by installing it myself I can diagnose it when it doesn't work two years from now (sorry I'm pesimistic).

Anyway, does anyyone know of a place other then going to the dealer's parts counter, where I can buy a new unused Ford remote starter? Id like this years model so the key fob looks somewhat new and not the old all black style. Thanks for your help.

yeah, no luck on eBay. Lot's a aftermarket branded stuff but not much along the lines of a Ford unit.

Alfie, any such luck? I am looking for the same thing for my '03 "Xploder". I am not as particular as you are on the "factory look", but wouldnt mind getting the same if the price is right.

Ok, I just called the dealer and asked for service to see what the installed price was. They told me $325. Then I asked how much if I just buy the unit. They told me and this is a quote, "well you can just go to Circuit City, that's where we have them installed"

I said well what if I want a Ford unit, she siad I would have to call the parts department. You can't make this stuff up....

I ordered the unit from the parts department for $185.00. We'll see how long before it comes in...
