Hi gang. I have a 58 F-100 that my boys and I are rebuilding. The hood has never latched tight. The latch clips on to the pin fine, but hood still travels up and down quite a bit. We need to get air deflector seal, hood to cowl seal, and bumper stops, adjust hinges, etc. But my question is this, the “ridge” under the hood that holds the latch doesn’t seem very rigid. It’s not soft, but I can certainly flex it a little with myhand. Our hood has just the emblem on the front. I have a good friend that has a 58 with the hood with the screen and the ford lettering on the front, and that hood has two supports that attach to the latch support, and also attach to underside of the hood. Much more solid. My question is am I missing something structural? Does anybody have this kind of hood that you could send me a pic of to compare?
Here are pictures of my '59. Don't have any idea what your truck has. The fact it dips down over grille likely adds rigidity. In my unbiased opinion the '58 and '57 look like they left something out.

Thank you very much for pics! That's what my friends looks like also. I will try to find a 58 to look at to compare. Thanks again
How is the condition of your latch? Is there any play in it? or how about a rusty area the hinge bolts to? The rubber on everything will help and adjustment will also help.
Hey there! Thanks for the pics. I found another latch that seems pretty tight. The one I have on now latches but maybe not holding too the pin as tight as I think it would. I'll get new rubber on it and make sure hinge bolts are tight. See what we can do with that. Thank you again!
