Thought I'd post this up here for better visibility, but you can readily apply this to any make or model.
Since I bought my truck, I absolutely hated the steering wheel cover, but even more than that was how tore up my leather was. Rotting would be a better term. I can't take full credit for this as one of my buddies did it on his truck since it's super popular with boats and skiffs.
Any 550 paracord will work for this, really it comes down to personal preference. I chose black for a sleeker look.
This is the video we both followed, pretty straight forward once you get on a roll. I chose to start about an inch from one side and work my way up instead of starting in the middle and working both sides out. I also alternated the knot down, while my buddy did his knot toward the top.
All in all this took me about 4 hours. Once you get on a roll it goes pretty quick. If I were to do it again I would do the knot towards the top as its easier to align. Neither of us finished off with the turks head knot, we pulled tight, cut it and melted it.
Hey, that’s a good idea. I like the way you did it. I think the knots on top might get annoying after awhile.
Thanks for posting it up.
Not a problem! I had the same thought, why not turn the knots down and make it smooth on top? You really have to crank it down but if you do there is no way its going to rotate on you.
Nice. When I did mine (just a wrap, no knots or embellishment) I did a loose wrap to get the length, then pulled the center out of the cord. I wanted a flatter feel/appearance and this worked out well.
I am actually really glad you posted this. I was gonna ask if the leather that is on my steering wheel is factory or not. Apparently it is. I already purchased some WheelSkins, but the look of the wrap is cool.

Yes. The higher end trim packages got a leather wrapped steering wheel. I bought a WheelSkin leather cover for my F-150 but ended up using it on my Bronco II. It was a lot easier than I expected. I’m going to get another one for the truck.
The 550 cord is an interesting choice. It will wear a long time. I drive with my hand on a spoke and it looks like you have no way of running the cord there.
