1993 F-350 7.3 IDI non turbo
Okay so something I have pondered is relocating the pickup and return lines on both of my tanks. I’m getting tired of having a quarter to a half a tank of fuel left in the tanks and it acting like it’s out of fuel. I’ve heard the pickup lines tend to get brittle and break off in the tanks. Can I relocate the lines to the bottom of the tanks or no? I have seen a buddy of mine do that with his fox body mustang cause he had the same issues, and it works very well for him
No more shower head. You can even use this as your only tank, so it’ll make your fuel system a little simpler. They also sell the sump by itself so you can put it on your front tank. Get rid of the shower head completely
$450 seems to be quite a bit on the high side.
I installed the Spectra F26E 38 gallon tank in my 86 F250 last year.
It is a direct replacement for the factory 19 gallon tank.
Think I bought if from Amazon and was around $160. Picked up a
new sending unit, and then add to the fuel pick up tube with compression
fittings and a new Shower Head.
You will have to lengthen the float rod around 5.5".
I pulled the bed, and then everything is right there to work on.
I used my Cherry Picker to lift the bed. Drove out from under it, and set
it on Saw Horses.
I kept both fuel tanks. Replaced both senders and the Fuel Switch over valve
with a new one. I replaced both Shower Heads.
I've considered adding a sump but that has its own pack of headaches. I fixed the 1/4 tank issue by simply adding some fuel hose to the end of the pickup in the tank to make up for the lost plastic showerhead. If your tank is clean and you get good fuel you shouldn't need the strainer,I just cut a v in the bottom of the hose so it can't suction to anything. You can always add a large micron in line filter right outside of the tank to catch anything bigger to save your lift pump and regular filter.
There are lots of ways to fix it with money but having full access to my fuel tank with the dollar or so worth of fuel line has made me almost forget about it.

I used a piece of aluminum window screen to wrap my extension hose so I wouldn't have to clean all the plastic pieces out. I've had those clog my sending unit after I did that mod, and on the 89 not long after I got it, it was missing the showerhead completely and didn't even have a hose added to it and it still sucked up those pieces...
