What to do with air sensor

Hello, been here for a bit, finally getting ready to dig into my 97 cclb. When I bought this truck, the air box had been removed and now just has a cone filter. The sensor is just hanging out where the box used to be.

If these sensors go bad, would it throw a code?
do I need it?
What should I do with it if it is needed?

Sensor doesn't look like it is in good shape

Thanks in advance

I think most just lay it on the fender like it is. I did years ago and no problem. I do not recall it causing a code when I have pulled codes on my truck. FYI I have never seen a air filter like that.

I have also run my truck with and without this sensor and could tell no difference.

That filter looks like it is collapsing inward from vacuum. If so, it is a restriction and a better flowing filter should replace it.

Search 6637 filter. I have been running one for years and have no regret.

You also seem to have the early switch on the master cylinder. There is a TSB recall out for it, I made a post for this item with the Ford part number.

Also, Ford will do it free if you want too.

The few pictures I've posted of this truck seem to get comments, makes me a little nervous to post more pictures lol. Thanks for the feedback fellas, ill start a build thread soon and then you guys can pick it apart lol

The filter is made by spectrum.

This is the only 7.3 I have had so I dont have a lot to compare it to, its hard to tell whats not there and what is supposed to be there. Finally about to start working on it after 2 years

Lots of comedy happens to vehicles after 25 years. Check my build thread to see where mine started...

worked on uncles Cadillac years ago for an auto antennae issue

took out the fender liner to get at it to replace it and thats when i noticed something shiny down there.

A GM combo wrench 1/2 - 9/16 sitting in there.

He had a strange noise hitting big bumps the dealer never could find the cause of.

Sounds like I must’ve been in that car at some point
