I recently rebuilt the 460 in my 1979 F-250. It seems to run fine but there is a vibration in the motor when I reach a certain rpm. I may have messed the harmonic balancer up while removing it. Does anyone know if this could be causing the vibration.
Walt,
It is possible to mess up a harmonic balancer while removing it. if you used a steering wheel puller to remove it, there is almost no chance of damage, if you used a pry bar, you in trouble. If i'm not mistaken, there is a rubber damper in the balancer and it will stick out at one point or another when the outer metal ring has been misaligned. The crank pulley bolts to the inside and will not show signs of vibration unless it, itself is bent.
The next question is; Is the 460 internally or externally balnced? I do not know but, maybe I can find out.

It is externally balanced. It is an auto c-6, and yes I reused the old flywheel. This was my first rebuild and I used the wrong puller on the balancer and forgot about it when I put it back together. Thanks for helping. I dont know a whole lot at this point.
