I'm looking for answers about the Decked bed drawer storage system (https://decked.com). I've watched several videos and I can not determine how big the gap is between the (decked) box and the tailgate. On most of the videos I've watched, it looks to be 6-7 inches on the 6 3/4 ft bed. This seems like a lot of wasted space for a custom system. Also the ammo-cans, in each corner of the system, seem smaller than the space available. Bottomline, it seems like this product does not take advantage of much of the available bed space. Does anybody have this system in a 6 3/4' bed and thoughts on usable space and opinion of the system?
I'm in the same boat as you. I probably would have bought into the decked system a while ago, if it went all the way back. My plan was to put a golf cart on it, that would require I keep the tailgate down, due to bumper/body overhand. However, on the decked, the tailgate would close under the body...but not if the decked doesn't go far enough back to support the rear wheels. Wish this truly was a custom fit, but alas, I think they have decided to reduce costs by not making one specifically for the Ford Shortbed Superduty.
Old thread but I found it in a search so I'll leave reply anyway.
I just put decked drawers in a short bed f250. You're correct, a bit over 6 inches between the end of drawer and tail gate. My guess is they make one length of drawers to fit all the full size short bed and because ford has the longest short bed, we get the biggest gap.
if you need every inch of bed length available you could fairly easily build a bracket that would hold a.board at the same height as the drawers that would attach to the rear of the bed.
So far they work well for me but I haven't filled them up yet. I put dirt bike on top and it allows me to close the tail gate because it has moved the bike up.
The biggest down side has been losing access to the factory tie down points, but since ford only gives you 4 poorly located tie downs anyway, not a huge loss. I added e trac to the front of the bed and bought an off brand box link to put in each corner.
