I changed out my radiator on me 66 today and needed new hoses. I went to Napa and all I could get for the upper hose was 2"x2". Well the radiator is 1.75" and the thermostat housing is 2". He goes in the back room and produces this sleeve, last one he has and has no source for more. If you have this problem and don't want to run those flex hoses try to find some.
I've been out of the business for quite a while now, so don't take this as fact anymore. I never liked those adapter sleeves, but was always successful at finding the right hose.
If you have a parts store that will let you brouse their hose selection you can take your old hose and just eyeball their stock and find a hose that will work properly. Now like I said, I haven't had to do this in quite a few years, so I'm not sure what everyone carries for stock now, but their are literally hundreds of hoses to chose from.

That’s exactly what I did for my 63 with a 390 and aftermarket radiator.
towards the end of the 80's the rad manufacturers were cutting costs to compete with the Foreign companies. One of the first things they did to consolidate stock was to eliminate like radiators with different size necks, and throw one of those sleeves in the box. They also eliminated standard trans radiators and just made the auto with the trans cooler in the tank.
I am waiting to hear from “ a guy”, but I may have a line on one more upper hose for the stock radiator w/352, standard transmission. I am going to let another member know if it turns out that one more is available.
When I need a part, especially a hard to find one, I buy the one I need, plus one for my spares shelf, if available, and then, if another is available, I’ll let a member in need know, so they can have a shot at it. I hesitate to make a general shout-out in the Forums, and here’s for why: There are members here (Gasp!) who will ****** up all available stock and either hoard it, or gouge even fellow FTE members. Say it ain’t so! Number Dummy taught me this cold fact years ago, and he always struggled with whether he should publicly announce or not. I have personal knowledge of one amongst us that does it. Of course it is perfectly legal, but not morally right. Like what lawyers do, ya know?
I encourage others to do the same, get what you truly need, and then help another. That is all . . .
I bought the original style hose, only to find out that the replaced radiator had the top inlet in a different location. This explained why there was an old, ugly, universal hose on it. I learned from the Napa site that there are radiator hose repair kits. I cut the hose, rotated the bend 90 degrees, and shortened it. The repair sleeve keeps the two pieces together. I have two extra hose clamps on my top radiator hose, but it fits. (Next time I need radiator hoses, I should have more time to try and track down a single piece unit that fits.)
I was able to spend some time in the garage and decided to deal with the upper radiator hose that had the metal spring insert and was bound up and figured I would post it here as well as on my progress post, anyhow what I found after checking out the back room at the local advanced auto was a CarQuest #E72020 will fit perfectly after it’s trimmed up. I have a 390 with the Champion radiator and this hose works great.
Also, one of the other members,(can't remember who). posted this link for the Gates Hose PDF. It's not as good as in person but might help you as well, especially if you are looking for a non stock setup. You should at least book mark it.
For V8 trucks- it looks like the Gates 20719 gets you the 1.75 i.d. x 2.00 i.d. in the correct length (15.2") but it has a small dog-leg on the 2.00 i.d. end. Maybe just needs a little trim. Rockauto has great photos of most hoses to quickly and easily compare.
