I have an f350 mason dump with a peebody dump. Every time I let the dump body down it spews hydraulic fluid out of the reservoir fill cap. If I let it down while it is still in PTO it seems worse and if there is any weight in the bed it definitely worse. The fluid also seems to be aerated with bubbles.
Im thinking that the pump might have a bad seal that is allowing it to take on air. Im not sure what is going on other than it is all but disabling the truck because everytime I use the dump, it makes a huge mess.
If you have a hydraulic ram type lift, it sounds like there is air in the system. There should be a bleeder at the top of the ram. Lift the bed up about two feet and crack the bleeder until solid fluid comes out. This may take a few tries. Sounds like the air is compressing as the unit lifts, and expands when coming down.
I dont think it is overfilled. It goes up pretty slowly, when it lowers it dumps fluid out. Once it dumps the fluid it wont go all the way up (due to a lack of fluid im assuming). I did read that the line from the tank to the pump could have a blockage causing the pump to draw in some air. Then once the cylinder is retracting it is pushing all of the aerated fluid back in to the tank.
any thoughts on that?
