Thermostat

I am gonna be replacing my thermostat pretty soon, and there are two different options. The first is a high temp. It opens at about 192 degrees. The second is a medium which opens at 180. What are the pros and cons over each one? Thanks

Stay with the OEM Motorcraft 192 thermostat. The Motorcraft
seems to keep a more constant temperature, and will last longer
than 3rd party thermostats......

Second to Mr Ayer's comment. While running cooler in summer may not be a bad concept, the engine may not warm sufficiently in the winter months. Thus, the various engine temp sensors keep the engine running overly rich, spoiling your mileage among other evils.

I have an old 240 and a pair of 302's. have traditionally used a 180 thermostat year around. I am in mid CA, winter lows about 32, summer highs 95. All engines are sound.

Will a higher thermostat help with engine wear? What temperature should I get? Does the Ford dealer have the stuff or am I in aftermarket?

Thanks, guys

I had tried the cooler thermostat in my truck. It works better with 195 degrees; less condensation under the oil cap for my driving. Mostly my driving is short trips.

I use MotoRad FailSafe that stays open if it malfunctions. I go with the 192 in my Bronco 302.
