I recently replaced my lower intake manifold and install reconditioned Bosch fuel injectors 24# and four holes. I removed the valve covers and painted them. Everything back together per all specs. Truck was running like crap. I checked timing and it was ok. Then I watched the engine in the dark and saw a spark jumping from number four plug to a loose connection. I checked the plug for possible fouling and it was clean and gaped to specs. Since then I have a ticking rattle coming from the engine under low load. Nothing at idle and nothing at WOT. Can't hear anything at cruising speed.
I have tried various timing settings and the sound is still there when advanced or retarded. I have run all codes and have absolutely none. The truck did not make this sound before the replacement. To my untrained ear it sounds like a lifter. The manifold and injectors are the only thing changed. The manifold had been machined (so they say) and it looked it. The injectors are direct OEM replacement. Does anyone have a clue what I could check at this point? I realize a sound can not be reproduced in text or diagnosed but what I posted is the best I can do. Thanks for any ideas or help. Sandy

Also, make sure the wires are routed correctly. To avoid spark crossing over. Some ford engines are sensitive to this.
I have tried all the good ideas above and no luck. Don't slam me but I did replace the distributor just because. It has been leaking oil for a while and I had replaced the o ring and put a new gasket on top. Still leaking, so I bought a NEW Spectra Premium today and put it on hoping to fix the leak and hopefully the noise it is making if it was a timing issue.. Leak has stopped but noise is there but seems to not be as pronounced now. But it is still there. I guess at this point, unless someone has a suggestion to try, I will just drive it till it does whatever it's going to do. I did try some premium gas also. Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas and I will let you know when/if it bites the dust. Sandy
