Transmission ID

'97 E150, 5.4 liter Explorer conversion van
I was just wondering how to find out what transmission is in this van. The top of the transmission housing has the number 52 cast into it, if that means anything.

Thanks,
Going by those pictures 4R100. I just changed the fluid and that's the shape of the gasket, 20 bolts.

That tells you which die was used to cast that case. Most likely both 4R100 and 4R70 had a die #52.
