t98 shift ball score!!!
I've been searching for an NOS or used t98 shift ball for a long time now for my 1964 F100. Alerts on eBay, wanted ad on this site, the whole nine yards. Basically they don't exist. There is a tractor company that sells a similar ball **** without embossed numbers for about five bucks. I didn't want to pay $10 shipping on that item.
My threads are definitely slightly stripped out and it was very difficult to figure out the thread pattern. Most sites put a Ford t98 thread pattern at 7/16 and Jeep t98 thread pattern at 3/8 - 24. Finally figured out that my 64 F100 is 3/8 - 24. Either all the sites are wrong or I have a Jeep handle. My truck is from a farm and the engine and trans are not original to it so it could be a Jeep piece, who knows.
There is a McMaster-Carr a couple cities over from me here in California. They sell a oval shaped 3/8 - 24 ball **** for $3.47. Part number 6050k35. Was able to pick it up at will call, so no $10 shipping. Pretty nice. I think they sell that same ball **** in both fine and coarse 3/8, and fine and coarse 7/16. A nice option for people like me looking for a t98 ball **** solution. just wanted to pass that on to you guys. I'm still going to keep my NOS search going. But I have something really nice right now that works. If anyone out there knows how to cnc a shift pattern on this cheaply, please let me know.
If you think 15.00 is an unGodly amount to pay, you’ll have a conniption at what you’ll have to give for an NOS one - maybe as much as 65 OR 70 DOLLARS! JEEPERS !
Hi sean z, When I got my t-98, the threads on the "stick" were beyond repair. I cut off the threads completely. I had scrounged part of a pintle hitch. Cleaned the end with my 4" grinder. Then welded the "eye" part on . Has been working fine for 28 yrs. Expect another 28 out of it.
Is your speedometer red needle pointing over to 20 mph? I ask because, my speedo was real "bouncy". I found out through someone on FTE about a shop that specializes in speedo repairs. The shop name is: Scott Speedometer Service Corp. www.scottspeedometer.com Ph.# 248-338-4148
I sent mine to them. I had the speedo cable replaced too. They did a great job. Even made the red color of the needle brighter.
Hope this is a help to you,
Best, Pete
