Sorry, I copied the pics from an email from my friend into the post, guess it didn't work but I see them in my post and your reply. I'll attach them using the icon and see if that works better.
Thanks
Any chance this was repainted? With an original color red? I am trying to decode but the paint code J shows as red for that year, unless I'm a ways off on the decode here.
F25 = F250 4x2
Y = 352 2v (the only V8 available that year iirc)
R = San Jose Assembly Plant
862466 = 1966 series number
129 = 129" wheelbase
J = red (see above)
F253 = F250 4x2, 6,000lb GVWR
481 = 4 --I don't have that info
81 conventional cab, single axle, gas
C = 3 speed manual transmission
24. = Dana 60 rear axle, 4.10 ratio, non-limited slip, 5200 lbs capacity. (I found this in a Numberdummy post)
6000 = 6,000lb GVWR
172 4000 = 172 HP @ 4000RPM
72 = San Jose District Code
Let me know if anything doesn't match up and I will double check.

Reason: Add axle info

I'm thinking that maybe it came red, then was repainted yellow to match the FD trucks for that district. The grey trim looks to be painted on and the black trim to be some kind of stick on trim as it looks raised as it turns the corner on the cab. He did meet a guy in town that said "Hey I panted that truck".
He did send me this pic:
