Plugged it in, still had codes, seems the connector wasn’t deep enough to reach the contacts on the other harness.
Had to wait till the next day, OEM harness installed and all has been good since then.
This makes a lot of sense. I referenced part numbers on the invoices from this work and found that these are Autolite glow plugs and Dorman harnesses. Man, this shop was using the finest parts out there!!! Let’s not even mention the dorman oil cooler, egr cooler they put in and charged OEM price for. I digress. Anyways, will be going all OEM this go round. Hopefully will put these issues to an end.
Alright, got all my parts today and got going on it. Fender wells out. All was going great until I got to #3. The tip is most definitely swollen. It will completely unthread, pull out about 1/4”, and go no further. I’ve been told that I’m in big trouble if I snap this tip off, and I need this truck back on the road to tow this weekend. This plug in particular is testing .4-.6 ohms resistance. Should I just thread it back in and leave it alone? I have been pretty deep into this truck, but I lose all confidence when I think about removing the heads...
False alarm folks, finally got that plug out and it was not swollen. Just caked up with carbon really bad. Took some persuasion to come out. Why? I don’t know. But anyways, 8 new glow plugs and new Motorcraft harnesses, she fired right up. Made a little cloud of smoke and blew a mist of some kind of oily substance out of exhaust onto the floor, and smelled funny for about the first minute. I assume some oil had seeped into the cylinders while changing plugs. I had also shot some PB blaster down the #3 hole so may have been that. Anyways, all the codes went away by theirselves instantly, and it seems that I’ve got her fixed. Very satisfying! I assume the real test will be once I get it out of the shop and try to start it on a cold morning. If you don’t hear from me, then it worked. Lol. Thank you all for the suggestions and info.
