Hello,
Have a 2012. My turbo crapped out...again. Been twice now. I am now out of warranty and want to go with a better after market turbo. This truck is my daily driver and occasional tower. Not looking for big HP gains or a “race” setup. Mainly focusing on reliability. Truck is deleted and tuned. Will be running a mild tune, nothing crazy.
I have been researching and can see there are many options (dealer quoted me $5600 to replace with a factory turbo, that’s parts labor tax out the door). I can’t justify that to put the same junk back in there.
Do you guys have any recommendations? Or brands to avoid? Prefer a direct replacement that doesn’t require any major additional modifications.
I will prolly tackle replacing this myself. If you know of any particular instructional videos or write ups on how to replace that would be helpful (I’ve found tons of videos on you tube).
2015 and up would be my preference. One has to ask, why am "I" loosing turbos?
Do you run it hard and then shut it down or do you let the EGT's come down?
What oil are you using? Leaks to the turbo?
Are you running an aftermarket air filter and dusting the turbo?
i run it as hard as possible, WOT 24/7 on the war hammer race tune..for oil, I have had best luck with second hand tractor oil but sometimes I substitute it with hydraulic oil. And for maximum air filtration I use diesel soaked sandy beach towels stuffed in an s&b air intake. 🥱🥱
Check out the bd diesel line of turbos for the 6.7l. They make a direct replacement for the 11-14 with the gt37 cartridge. With no additional modifications or parts its a drop in, they also have a screamer version which is a modified version of the stock gt37. Thats the same turbo you will find on. 2015 and up 6.7l.
