Has anyone rebuild an AOD lately?
What kit did you use?
was the kit made in USA? Or close like California
What up grades?
what torque converter?
did you replace the bands?
Hey Roy,
It's been a while since we upgraded our AOD.... I really liked the information
from Baumann Electronic Controls... They recommend the AODE transmissions
for most applications now.
We bought a 2 inch Kevlar Overdrive Band for our's along with an upgraded
clutch pack.

Is this a trans you have been using or one you are putting in ? My experience was not great mostly due to my own actions . I decided to " freshen up " a trans before installing it . I thought I could make due without the seal install tools , this is virtually impossible . Buy a good book FORD AOD Transmissions by George Reid is generally considered one of the best . You also need access to different snap ring thicknesses for clutch pack shimming . In the end my trans was very short lived . After taking it to a shop I was told that my rebuild was reasonably good but I had not installed the tourque converter properly damaging my pump . This I was quite carefull about and have installed allot of trans but thought it must have slipped out during the installation . Paid my money and took it home . Some time later before installation I was wandering around backpages of FTE and found an article saying " don't use a c6 flexplate on a AOD it will burn out your pump " . Guess what I did ? If I would have installed it I would have ruined another trans . Sorry about the long winded reply but I hope my experience will save someone else the expense and grief I suffered .
Hey Roy
i'm not sure what our AOD came from... We got it from a shop.
There are (3) different flavors of AOD - You want the one with the 2 inch overdrive band.
Getting the pressure right on that cable is tricky. I'd be careful there.
Yes I have been using the trans for a few years now it’s from a 3/4 ton van hopefully it has the 2” overdrive band that was stock in this year ( it was rebuilt in 07 so don’t know) van. I rebuilt the engine last year and converted to a roller cam ect too increase hp to maybe 250 or so time to up grade the trans.
I have never gotten into a auto trans so a another set of tools maybe necessary have some experience with t98 and 303 manual trans but there is a big difference
I do plan on getting some instruction books so putting George Reid on the list thanks for info

thanks Ben I’m aware of tv adjustment right now I’m slightly off the correct channel now but only need small adjustments, engine does stall easy I had to increase idle rpm to 800 or so
