This was the wear on my dad's when I rebuilt it. Had to purchase a new backing plate. Funny thing is he was driving it with no issues and I found on a completely random check. His had lots of endplay.
Yes thats amazing that that wear (on your dad’s) had no noticeable affect yet mine was obviously in need of a rebuild noted by the crazy/obnoxious sound I was hearing. Mine is BTW noticeably better with this SPX billet wheel - Spool up is considerably faster and just makes driving the truck so much more enjoyable! Highly recommended to anyone with a stock turbo, tunes and some supporting mods.

Yes, it had thrusted so much that one seal ring was gone and the other was stuck in the oil return hole IIRC. No noise, no smoke, no oil usage. Blows my mind.
Which wheel did you have previously? I had the riffraff 4x4 wheel for a while and really liked it a lot. Actually liked it so much on mine that we rebuilt dads with one as well. I replaced so many parts on his that it would have been the same price to just buy a replacement, but by rebuilding he got the billet wheel for the same total cost.
I had the riffraff anti-surge wheel before and it did do a good job of getting rid of my surge issues. So far the SPX 5 X 5 has no surge and more boost. Boost comes on very quick and tops out at 25psi. Truck feels lively with my 1023 tunes and the shifts are cleaner. I think the shifts are cleaner (smoother) because the boost is better at all rpm’s.
