Code 211 PIP circuit failure and no spark
It’s had the plugs, cap, wires and rotor changed every 70-80,000 miles as needed.
It started running poorly the other day but settled down and made it home. Started up fine yesterday and today. Drove it again today, and it made it back home, but by way of a AAA flatbed tow truck.
I have a code 211 and my searching looks like changing the pickup coil involves pulling the distributor.
With 195000 miles on the original distributor with the plastic drive gear, I’m thinking of just dropping a whole new distributor in and possibly a new coil.
Any suggestions for what brand to go with since I can’t find a Motorcraft one anywhere?
After bad luck with spectra fuel pumps, I’m leery of going with them.
If the PIP is bad, replace with the Motorcraft PIP. (not sure your reference to a plastic gear)
Have had experience with a friend's aftermarket distributor which has sheared two roll pins on the drive gear so far & was on it's way to a third when recently pulled out.
Factory re-man Motorcraft distributors for this gen engines have all but totally disappeared.
