2016 Muffler Removal -- Solved!
Went to remove the muffler from my 2016 F250 CCSB 6.2L today to get a sense for how much louder that would be. After getting the clamp off from right behind the second resonator, started it up, and was surprised that it wasn't annoyingly loud. So, I decided to press on with taking the muffler off, figuring I'd drive it around for a week or two to see if I liked it.
Got the muffler off all the hangers, and now... Well... For the life of me, I can't figure out which way I need to lift/twist/pull to get that thing over the axle, and out from under the truck. Any suggestions? I've been working on it with it on the ground... Do I need to jack the truck up?
Did a search of the forums here, and didn't find anything about how to remove it. If I missed something, please let me know. Any thoughts or insight welcome.
I did indeed have to jack up the rear passenger side of the truck to get it out. Once I lifted it till the tire was just barely touching, I was able to pull it out by pulling straight forward.
To those that read this later, here are some quick tips on how to remove the muffler section:
- You'll need a 5/8" crescent or deep socket for the exhaust clamp between the resonator and the muffler (on 2016s at least)
- WD-40 or other light lube for the exhaust slip joint, as well as to lube the hangers
- A large set of channellocks to get the hangers out of the rubbers. See here for how to:
I'll post a quick update in a few weeks with my impressions of the muffler delete. Thanks again Sir Kayakalot

Nope. Left the resonators on. Wanted to try the easiest modification first. After taking off just the muffler, I'm pretty happy with the sound, but want to live with it for a while to see how much I love/hate it with varied use.
If I decide to stick with it, I plan to put an extensions on it with a turn down so that it dumps under the bed, just before the rear axle.
