Hi everyone! My name is Andrew and I’m new here. I’m wondering if you could help me?
I recently picked up an early 99 that has a ZF5 swapped in. I’m looking to get a pre-bled clutch master/slave for it but can’t find one anywhere. I’ve heard some of these trucks (although very rare) came with five speeds but I can only find the assembly for a ZF6 which uses an internal slave.
Is it safe to assume my truck uses a ZF6 master and hose from a superduty and a ZF5 slave from an OBS?? If that’s the case I think I could piece one together although I dread the thought of trying to bleed it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
Superduty never came with zf5.
the zf6's shifter labeled L then 1-5 caused the confusion.
if they swapped a zf5 in, I would start by posting pictures of the clutch hydraulics you have then compare to what the zf6 trucks have.
That is, in fact a 5-speed based on the slave cylinder and bellhousing bracket.
Wow....
The 6-speeds were not "internal" though. They were also external but locked into the bellhousing from behind and pushed forward on the clutch fork instead of pivoting.
If you are OK with using the proper master and slave regardless of them being for an OBS or SD and are only concerned about the hose, you could use your own or match what you have against what is available.
What I mean by that is compare images from various parts suppliers like Rock Auto and the like of the ZF5 and ZF6 assembly. I guess I don't know if you are concerned about the routing of the preformed hose, the length or diameter.
If you want to make your own, you could go that route.
Thanks for the help everyone. The reservoir is attached to a hose and mounted up on the firewall.
comparing on rock auto it looks like I have the ZF6 master and a ZF5 slave. That said I could probably piece one together I just hate the thought trying to bleed it.
Did the 5.4 and V10’s come with fivespeeds in the SD years? Was really hoping to get a pre-bled unit..

There were ZF5’s put in a few E99 trucks. They were rare!
Not sure about hydraulics though... Have you called a dealer yet? I GREATLY prefer OEM hydraulics for ZF6. My luck with aftermarket ones has not been good.
