Removing E-brake cables from Backing plate

Removing E-brake cables from Backing plate
I am sure there's a thread out there some where, but I haven't been able to locate it. How do you go about removing the "finger" retainer on the inside of the brake backing plate? Assume they are supposed to screw in/out, but 43 years has seemingly made that impossible. I read something about using a small hose clamp to pull the fingers in, but not sure that will work. Thanks in advance

There is a tool for that.
Search: LISLE 40750
I have used this tool. It does make it easier, but is not a "have to".
You can also push the fingers in a couple at a time as you work your way around it.

Thanks fellas. I can vouch that the hose clamp method works decently. The trick is using a smallish hose clamp. Appreciate the help. Trying to get all these things apart and cleaned up so I can make them pretty again and get this rear end back together. Weather her has been perfect for a truck with no AC, really miss driving it.
