i got an 87 f 250 and my parking brake dont work. if you look under the truck the cables are all just totally wacked.... they are all messed up my question is how do i go about just putting a whole new one on there and how difficult is it???
BUMP, Hey my parking brake does not work also. I keep it in gear and it will roll on me some on a steep hill. How do you check and fix the parking break?? I think it is the rear drum breaks.
yea its kinda a 3 part cable i think... u have the part that runs the left drum and one to the right drum... then u have the part that goes to the pedal....
they arent to hard to change but getting them out of hte drums can be a beach and a half... the most un cooperating things i ever saw...

Actually there is a very easy way to get the cables out of the BACKING PLATE. Use a SMALL hose clamp, place it about 1/8 inch from the backing plate and tighten the hose clamp. Slide the end of those prongs into the backing plate and carefully loosen the hose clamp and slide those prongs on through.
Yes that inside cable almost always freezes up in the housing on those cable assemblys that go into the backing plates. It's hopeless to try and free them up. Just replace them.
