Wanted to get some opinions on a good setup to upgrade the suspension on an 04 X. I know it's been done to death here so feel free to direct me to the thread.
Primarily on road use with some wheeling, but nothing competitive. My front springs are sagging and it's time to upgrade. Everything equal, what us everyone's opinion on the smoothest ride?
I went with ATS V and C code springs. They give about a 2" lift, but I did them mainly to help level the Ex for towing. For that they are great. If I let air out of my tires down to 60 rear and 55 front the ride is pretty smooth. I tow at 80 rear and 70 front and the ride is not terribly smooth.

what does "every thing equal" mean ?
my experience says almost nothing is equal, each thing being unique.
as for "smoothest ride" a suspension tuned to 1.0 to 1.5 Hertz is going to be the smoothest but given the unsprung weight of the Ex axles, tires, springs, drivelines you are always going
to be battling a high unsprung to sprung weight ratio resulting is a less then smooth ride. aka "rides like a truck"
the keys to making the excursion ride quality the very best it can be is.
keep the center of gravity as low as possible
keep the tire size/weight as low as possible
us the least amount of spring rate as possible
spend the majority of your budget on custom tuned shocks.
oh and that isn"t really an opinion per se but a widely acknowledged fact amongst suspension engineers.
Thanks pirate
the "everything equal" referred to same tire, wheel, steering etc. what suspension setup would be smoothest on road, and still handle some bumpy trails

need more info.
1. what size tire ?
2. What engine ?
3. preferred ride height ?
4. your budget ?
5. How big are the bump ?
6. how fast fo you want to hit those bumps?
7. How long is the bumpy road or more specifically how long will you be aggressively driving on said bumpy road?
answer me that And i can spec you a suspension to achieve it.
1. 35s
2. 6.0
3. 2-3in > stock
4. cheap and cheerful under 2k
5. Shin high
6. Till the wife hits the imaginary brake on her side
7. May never stop
To achieve #4 you will need #6 to occur at about 5mph unless you increase #4 to about $20+k
shin high is not a bump its a whoop and hitting whoops in an excursion is ungodly expensive.
this is a 36” travel $35,000 front suspension on a pre-excursion aka a centurion. She is gonna need more then a imaginary brake to slow this to under 70mph is your shin high whoops.
your $2k is going to get you a sweet dirt road mobber but not a whoop killer.
sounds to me like a 22210/22415 with bilsten 5100 is your huckleberry
I've only played in the yard with it, but I'm excited to take it off road. We've got less than 1000 miles on it, but my wife and I love how it rides and handles.
Id say the smoothest ride would be achieved by converting front to D60 coil spring from a newer truck. Bigger brakes, better turning and ride. I will do that someday. In the mean time I went same route as Armylifer. V/C springs, Bilstein shocks, rear bags, 285/75/17. I gained 2.25” with springs another inch with tires. After a few trips I learned the X has to be aired down.
