Hey everybody, I’ve been hanging around the site a lot lately but this is my first time posting here. I recently bought a 1978 f800 dump truck to have here around the farm. As far as I know it has a 391 in it. I’ll admit first off I don’t know much about engine stuff. I am having a very difficult time trying to find any parts for this truck, everywhere I try around here say nothing comes up or they don’t know, even when searching online the search results never seem to go up to an f800. I first started looking for a replacement air filter housing as the one for this truck is missing And came up with nothing. Now I am looking for valve guide seals and same thing, I have been asked if another engine can be crossed over for the guide seals but I don’t know the answer to that, I’ve been told a 360 should but until I know for sure I don’t want to throw money at parts to find later they didn’t work. As it is now I can’t even get the truck started because of a starter issue that I can’t figure out...when I bought the truck it did have a new starter installed but shortly after the starter went bad, which was confirmed by a starter shop, so I bought a replacement using the number off of that starter, that thing has been trouble from the beginning. It seems to not engage the flywheel. Can anybody tell me a number off of the ORIGINAL starter so I at least now I’m looking for one that is right for this truck? If the one that was put on from the previous owner wasn’t right or was cheaply made than me using the same part number and getting the same thing won’t help. Again, I’m not very smart with this stuff so please bear with me. Sorry for the long post but I hope it makes sense but I’m just at a loss as to where to find any decent help here locally, I have even stopped at some old timers houses and knocked on their doors to ask if they might know anything...I am getting desperate! 😃
Can anybody give me the original part number for the starter on a 1978 f800 with a 391, or a part number for a good replacement? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

There's very little if any parts listed on the web for medium duty tracks, parts stores like NAPA, OReilly's, ect can look parts up for those trucks if you call them.
Regarding your stater, read this thread. The FE and FT engines are the same family, but the starters have a different part number. What the difference is I can't tell you. Your other post says it isn't engaging the flywheel. Have you inspected the flywheel ring gear? Sometimes they wear enough to cause your issue. You have to inspect it all the way around. You might have a bad spot or two or three which you land on sometimes, and then land on good spots other times.
I consolidated your threads, let's stay together on this.
Your post in the '73-'79 forum also asks about the air cleaner. Just to run it, you can put on a smaller open element filter housing from a parts store. The carb diameters are standard. Just make sure it is high enough to clear your linkages etc. As the reply in your other post says, the actual "correct" truck housing will be a salvage yard or older truck parts website item.
The valve stem seals are always an suspect on these. Is it leaving a cloud on start up and decel? Or is it leaving a cloud all the time, idle, steady running etc?
