Fuel, Temp, Oil, Odometer appear to function, Batt parts were laying in the bottom of the cluster. Not sure if that c clip belongs to the Batt. Might belong to the Odometer assembly. Looking for a schematic, exploded parts view, an explanation what changes I'll need, if any, using a 12 volt system with these parts. Whew, that's a big request. Thanks in advance for any help.
Can't answer your gauge question, but for power, there's several ways to reduce the voltage to the gauges. One of the more simple ways is the way the factory did it starting in 1957. A simple voltage regulator where 12v goes in but 6v comes out and wires to the gauge incoming power lead. You can find the old fashioned ones, or for about the same money Dennis Carpenter (and I'm sure others) has an updated, solid state version that should work better. https://www.dennis-carpenter.com/en/...er-voltage-reg

Your ammeter should have a loop on the back that the "BATT" wire goes through. I can't imagine that "C clip" being it.
Yes it did. It wasLwas bent up a little and only two of the prongs were holding it on. Looks like it held a heavy wire. Do you have a photo of the back or inside?

Thanks again for all the help. I just found a photo showing where the c clip goes. Now I'll look for a photo of the wiring. Next week I'll start in on the steering. Always something new to learn. Enjoy your evening MM.

Backside should look like this. You will need to have the loop intact in order for it to work.
How about a voltmeter then forget about the ampmeter with a loop. looks correct too
Aw Sam, I just got all the gauges cleaned up and put back together, the instrument cluster box, aluminum background and bezel stripped, polished and/or painted, and the glass edges sanded smooth under water.
Nope, I'm stubborn, and I'm going with this. However, I do reserve the right to change my mind in the future. My wife taught me that phrase. Enjoy the Great Northeast.
