Wow, thanks for the links. I haven't even gotten to do much research on the turbo yet and I'm glad I didn't haha, sounds like I'd be chasing ghosts for a few hours. This is also my first turbo so when I originally saw this I thought it was like a job half done and slapped the old intake on. I've watched it go to about 3psi with the peak being 6 I believe. Here are some more pics if ya'll are interested. I also wasn't able to get a good pic of it but it does look like there's a decent amount of oil accumulated underneath and around it so hopefully, that's where the leak is coming from above the starter. From what I've also poked at, do you think I should try upgrading this turbo down the road or do you really think it's on-par with some of the other turbos for this truck? I'm sure it could use a cleaning and refresh though.
Thanks for the info too about US & Canadian trucks, I guess I should keep an eye out going forward on buying parts online for this truck lol.
I agree with lonewolf it is nice to still be able to use oem quality paper air filters, sadly when I did my turbo kit I only had room for a knock off k&n..
But hey cool find man, that thing will definitely perform on par with a banks or hypermax kit. If you want more power and to see more boost you'll have to add a pyrometer (exhaust temp gauge) first, then crank the fuel up.
If you decide to go that route, clock the wheels all the way to the left, take the rubber part of the fender liner out (not the whole plastic thing) and you can drill/tap right there pretty easily to add a probe. I prefer the 1/4" npt ones as they're less likely to snap off. Stay away from anything glowshift
That's awesome, definitely nice to know that I won't need to have that expense of replacing it anytime soon. I'm also loving the thought of doing a cowl intake. The one in the video above gave me goosebumps haha. I'm sure there's also forums/sites out there but I assume it's pretty straightforward when it comes to fixing oil leaks on a turbo right?
I also do have a pyrometer gauge, if it works correctly is another question but I have seen it rise a smidge under pulls on the highway. The guy mounted it more towards the center of the dash and I generally don't tend to look that far over so I'll likely add it on the left pillar, that and the light in it is dead so it's only seen in the day. Once I figure out my trans issues though, I'd love to add a Tran Temp Gauge as well and have that going. Super excited to start working on this within the next couple weeks or so (:
Haven't gotten to clean inside yet from previous owner but have some goodies to keep this thing running in it haha
I forget the brand, but at one time I had gotten some citrus based degreaser that came in aerosol can, it was orange iirc and it worked really well for cleaning grease off my motor so I could find my leak. I would spray it on, like it soak for 15 minutes and then hose off with a spray nozzle. If you have access to a pressure washer even better.
The leak above the starter could be your turbo drain, head gasket (unlikely because you're 7.3) or rear of the valley pan.
I think those turbos used a piece of rubber hose for the drain, and it may be shot from old age ect.
Pretty nice inside, I like the visor. Interesting moon roof in there too.
