Anyone running winter fronts on the 2019 2020 6.7's ? I had my 2019 plugged in last night as it's already -12 Celsius in my parts..Once on the road it took a long while for the temp gauge to climb to normal operating temps. I bought and installed a Fia winter cover and let the truck cool right off for 5 hours then went for a drive and that cover obviously made a huge difference in warm up time. On the newer generation 6.7's I have read it is not recommended to use a winter cover for whatever reason. On my 6.0 Powerstroke I used to leave a winter front on from October right up until the middle of April for 15 brutal winters in a row and never had a problem. I am in -10 to -40 temperatures for pretty much 6 months straight. Any info regarding the new gen 6.7's and winter fronts ?
Winter front's are used by other members of the forum. I intend to buy one and do the same. Fia is a good brand, had that on my 6.0 and was happy with it.
I did a little test today and with the winter front off in -13 C temps in 6th gear doing the speed limit my oil temps were in the low to mid 80's . With the winter front on they were 90 to 91 C which is what it runs in the summer. Can't see how there could be a problem with a winter front unless a guy ran it too long into spring and wasn't paying attention to his temps.
Used to have a Duramax back in the days! That thing needed and was standard equipment in that truck. In the owner's manual, it recommended using below 32F(0C) unless you were towing! Obviously, towing makes things work harder and creates more heat as well so they wanted you to make sure that the front of the truck was unobstructed from getting sufficient airflow to get rid of that extra heat. Ford's may be concerned about the same issues, but are blanket saying don't use it at all to give them more room on warranty claims.
My Fia winter front showed up today. Actually, 5 of them did. Amazon sent me a case instead of one individual box. I'll have to contact them to get the others returned.
But I got the install going. Grill removal is super easy. I opted for the stick on snaps instead of the screw on snaps. so I plan to let them sit in the house for 24 hours to cure before putting the grill back on. But This Fia cover looks every bit as nice as the one I had on my previous 6.0.
My winter front has been on for a couple days and definitely makes a difference for warm up times when driving especially shorter trips. If you don't plug this 6.7 in for 3 or 4 hours even in a measly -8 celcius temperature it still takes a long time to warm at idle even with the winter front on. It's like the thermostat is stuck open.It is a cold blooded engine that"s for sure. Plugging the truck in works wonders. We get down to -30 to even -40 in mid winter here so might have to take the long route to warm her up to operating temperature.
