Charging problems
My buddies 97 f150 has just changed to a new battery..new alternator ..battery shows 13.3 key off..starts then it stays at 12.8..same from alt..cel and battery light come on after about a minute..is there voltage regulator or something that will stop charging? Not to familiar with gassers since i got a 7 3 and a 6.0..any help would be greatly appreciated..

Do you know what brand and amp rating the new alternator is ? If it's from Advance Auto, I would just take it off and throw it in a canal. I would stick with a Motorcraft or NAPA alternator . Use the amp rating the truck came with. There seems to be a difference before and after 7/97 of that model year. Make sure you get the right part number.

What kind of reading do you get if you turn on the lights and heater/ac? Take the alternator and have it bench tested where you bought it or autozone/advance/napa. Could be bad wiring. Why did you change those parts in the first place?

my buddies truck..he changed those parts ..then came to me after he did..so i had no point of reference to start with..but i will trace the wiring later to see if any breaks or bad grounds
