Issue with remote start
I'm having issues with my new to me 2003 F350 XLT. It came with remote start system but I can't get it working for the life of me.
It is an Astrostart 2000. I've checked the hood safety pin and initially that was disconnected so I reconnected it. The remote seems to be flaky even with new batteries in it. I press the unlock/lock and it works every few times, not every time like it should. I have never been able to get the start function working. I checked the valet switch underneath and toggled it on and off. When it attempts to start the lights don't even flash so I think that means its not even registering as a start request?
Not really sure how these things work so not sure where to start troubleshooting.
One thing to note, when it fails starting a few times I have to disconnect the batteries as it won't allow the truck to start with the key after the auto start fails.
Any ideas on where to start looking or how to test if this thing works?
Thanks in advance!!
Used to install Astro starts at a shop I worked at in the 90's. Seemed to be French Canadian based company. You may be able to contact for manuals. If lights don't flash on request but doors will lock/unlock you may have to go through initializing system especially after battery disconnect. Depending on install could be using rpm or voltage sense. You may need owners manual and installation manual. Been over 20 years since I installed one, sorry can't be more help.
