I just got the power steering put together on my ‘56 and I’m back on the road. Now it’s time to think about wipers.
My truck came without wiper arms, and in fact one side is even missing the knurl for mounting the arms. I’ve seen plenty of stainless wiper arms for the ‘56, and also adapters for allowing them to accept modern wiper blades. I’ve also found replacement knurls. But it got me thinking: aren’t there any wiper arms from new vehicles that would fit this truck that I wouldn’t have to add adapters to? They don’t have to be chrome or stainless. And if they take a different sized knurl, I have to replace one of them anyway.
I found plenty of threads for electric wiper motor conversions, which I’m going to do, but not much for newer wiper arms. Any thoughts?
The vendors offer a wiper motor that supposedly fits in the stock space and functions as stock, but I think the wiring is different. I have been looking at those. If I were you I think I would go with that one and replacement or used arms, etc. Ford engineered it all to work with that size windshield, etc. I would think trying to use something from another vehicle would be a huge headache....
Thanks Greg. I already found a bolt-in electric motor, that part should be simple. You may be right about using stock wiper arms, it just seemed silly to buy old style, then adapt them to accept new blades. I’ve heard iffy things about the old style blades.
