Bad Window Regulator?

I bought new window regulators years ago from one of the big after market suppliers. They have not been used a lot. They always had a clunk clunk clunk when rolling up. About every 1/4 turn . Now drivers side ,because it is used more, is apparently stripped out. I can help window up by pulling on it. That's it. I don't know if there were bad regulators going around back then or what. Any recommendations where I can get a good quality regulator is appreciated. Or. Is just a roll of the dice? My 1966 F100 with original regulators work like silk. Thanks.

I forgot to mention I think Roy mainly deals with nice NOS regulators.Passenger side are a lot easier to find than drivers side,of coarse that would be normal!

Just curious, have you inspected the part? There has to be a reason for the clunk, are there teeth missing from the gears? Is the handle slipping on the shaft? Not really much else that can go wrong.

I have never understood why aftermarket stuff cannot be reproduced with the exact same quality as OEM, but it usually is not. I had to use a repro regulator in the drivers side of the 53, and the quality comparison to the original is stark. The repro is much more springy and less ridged in its construction. It works better than the worn out original, but I bet it wont work as long.

Thank you everyone for info. I have not pulled regulator yet. I do know that handle is not spinning on the regulator shaft. Would like to get a replacement first. Do not like to name drop. But. I got these from Mid Fifties Ford. Always had good luck with them. I would guess all those places get their parts from the same places.
