Electrical Problems

My 2015 Lariat 4x4 Super crew with V8 has developed a few problems. Recently my windshield washers stopped spraying. Wipers work but no spray or pump sounds when the button is held in. Bottle is full, Level doesn’t change, hooked external pump to line and water sprays onto windshield.

Last week I realized that my tailgate will not unlatch. Button on tailgate gets no action, no click, no anything. Double click on key fob makes lights flash as expected, but nothing from tailgate. Backup camera works fine. Could be the actuator but seems odd that is shows up with 2 other non-related problems.

After thorough check of all features, lights, etc... I also find that some of the backup sensors are not working properly. If someone walks immediately behind the bumper, the bars on the display will light up appropriately. Get a couple feet back and nothing happens. As for the collision beeps or car coming warning, none at all. Previously it would start beeping at a parking stop or curb. Now I can back right into anything and receive no warning at all.

No other problems found and no blown fuses to be found.

I live on ranch property and have found evidence of mice under the hood. The Battery Blanket was chewed slightly a few years ago and more is gone since the battery change in June. There are bits of it between the sheet metal of the hood and pills roll around in there when the hood opens. Have never found signs of mice inside the cab. I have searched the engine compartment throughly and underneath the truck the best possible from on-my-back and have found no signs of chewing on any of the wiring harnesses or connectors.

Bought the truck new. After market trailer brake controller added during the first month. Battery replaced 6/2020. (Didn’t know about BMS then, that’s all been done now). Other than scheduled fluid and filter changes, nothing else has been done to the truck.

If anyone knows where the wiring for these 3 items might come together in a common location, how to track down such a thing, or perhaps recognize the combination of these 3 issues as a symptom of something other than wire damage, I will surely appreciate any suggestions you may have.

I would start by checking the connections for power at washer pump and tailgate actuators. It’s possible that a device has failed before getting into the wiring. Check fuses. For the bulk of the wiring maybe check around the BCM behind the passenger kick panel.

For 2 unrelated failures, I would check the main ground from the battery to the frame.
