battery, starter, altenator check out fine when tested
radio panel quit displaying properly; radio would come on loudly upon cranking the car; radio would not hold presets - now radio doesn't work at all (fuse is fine)
leaking on driver's side windshield
small burn marks on ceiling (had same problem in '99 Exp, but different electrical problems)
factory installed VHS system - tv monitor would sometimes not display (can't be used at all now that radio doesn't work)
Haven't heard of this problem applying to '01 Expedition's but you mentioned a leak in the windshield. You might want to check your GEM module under the hood to see if it's wet. This can cause a lot of electrical problems. Just out of curiosity, what electrical problem in your '99 caused burn marks on the ceiling?
I never knew if it was an electrical problem that caused it, but I had other electrical problems, such as power locks locking ten minutes after driving and lights coming on panel for no reason.
Do a search under "gem" and you will find alot of problems related to your leaky windshield. That may be the root to your dead battery. Often times when the windshield leaks its drops water on the gem which in turn gets the ball rolling for all kinds of electrical gremlins. Many many people who have had this problem have noted that their climate control turns on when there is no key in the ignition. This would definitly cause your battery to drain.
The amp for the subwoofer was giving a signal to the radio to stay on all the time, which was draining the battery overnight. We pulled this audio fuse until we can have the radio removed and sent off for repair. No more battery drain, but it did begin stalling from all the dying and charging. It was a cheap Auto Zone battery anyway. Replaced the battery with a Die Hard.
Not sure I get it. If it is the #1 fuse you are referring to, how do you know its the amp? As far as I know the fuse contol's the entire stereo sytstem. I keep bugging you about this because my #1 fuse blows the second I put it in. Trying to figure out a starting point to hunt down my problem. Please tell me how the person who trouble shooted your system came up with this decistion.
Also, does anybody know how to unhook the sub without pulling all the panel's out of the truck. Would like to unhook the sub to see if that is my problem as well. When I unplugged the stereo and removed it, I still kept blowing fuses.
