conventional towing a large load

I am looking to purchase a F250 Super Duty to tow a trailer with a 16000 lb. gvwr. I am wanting the F250 because of its 10000 lb gvwr that should keep me within the limits of DOT's gcwr of 26001 lbs. This would only be used to occasionally tow a 12500 lb track loader. I want to stay under the threshold that would require me to get a CDL. Any thoughts?

I think you are on the right track.

I don't think that's going to work. To get the right conventional tow rating for 16K you need the 6.7L engine. When you get that engine it bumps you to the 30K GCWR.

Here is the relevant excerpt from the 2020 Ford Towing Guide.

I just pull and RV, but what type of tongue weight would that type of trailer/load have? If same as a travel trailer at roughly 13% and you went F250 diesel, you'd have the GCWR but over 2K in tongue weight. Add in truck bed gear, tools etc plus occupants and you may bust payload of the 3/4 ton diesel which will be in the 2300-2500 range I believe.

The F-250 2.5" receiver also has a 1500lb tongue limit.

Yep....same as my F350 SRW with gas engine. You need the 6.7 PSD engine to have the 3” receiver and higher hitch receiver rating

So get the 6.7 and get the diesel 3/4 ton derated to 9900 lbs or get a F350 and derate it to 10k like I did. No big deal........
