I am looking to convert my 1966 F100 with a 352 from manual brakes to power brakes. I am trying to figure out where to attach the vacuum line from the power booster. Can I T off of the vacuum port on the back of the intake manifold that currently goes to the automatic transmission? If not, then where would you suggest I attach the brake power booster? My 352 is stock with the 2 barrel carburetor still in place. There are no plans to switch the intake manifold or the carburetor unless I have to. Thanks ahead of time.
You should be able to use the same vacuum port as the transmission.
IIRC, our '66 had a rather small diameter vacuum line from the back of the 2bbl carb. The brake came directly off the intake, which was a larger port. You want that larger port for the brake as you don't want any delay in the vacuum supply. The transmission uses far less volume than the brake booster.
Thanks for the info. Does the 8" provide adequate brake boost? To be honest anything would be better than what I have. I almost feel like Fred Flintstone when I have to put on the brakes.
I’m considering the same exact unit for my 66, although mine is a 240 ci so I have no idea where I’d get the vacuum from yet as I haven’t really looked at the vacuum ports on the intake and carb. As far as installation goes, mounting to the firewall and rod length, how did it all work out? Did you have to modify anything or was in a direct bolt in and go? Overall would you recommend this unit? Thanks
I have 65 F250 w/352 that someone before me put power brakes on. Mine came to me with an Edelbrock 4 barrel intake and there is a vacuum port on the intake behind the carb where the vacuum tree is mounted and that’s where it pulls from.
On my 70 model I converted to power brakes and I pulled vacuum from the same spot. It will pin you to the seatbelt/steering wheel if you press hard enough. I have the small booster on both trucks.
I don’t have any factory 352 intakes to give you any tips on where to get vacuum. I would try to find a place on the intake to pull from. Sorry for the lack of decisive help!
