Seems a little high to me but it's just money. If it's the truck you want and can afford it then buy it. Whether you build one yourself or buy one like that already done just don't expect to ever get all of your money back out of it. No different than if you go buy a new truck.

That's not high. Mine is for sale for 1 million dollars
.
On the other hand sometimes it's better to trade for something that you want, not money. People are more willing to give up something the are done with (that may be worth more) more than cash.
Thank You, the truck is in Montross VA 22520 it was at the GAA auction in Greensbors NC in July but did not sell, it was bid to $17,500 with a reserve of $20,000. The guy says he will now take $19,000 plus the auction fees that amount to $20,500.
I am just a bit confused as the prices are all over the place some a lot more and some way less (Hagerty says 11k in good condition???? very difficult to make a decision. Thanks for your help.
Hagerty bases their prices on real world sales and what people are insuring them for. If someone bid on it at the auction and was able to look it over in person and here it run and was only willing to go to $17,500 then there is a real good chance that is all it's worth. A lot of people including me put a lot more money into these trucks than they will ever recover. Sounds like that truck is in the hands of a broker who has tacked on a healthy profit or an owner who thinks he is going to recover his money. I would keep looking there are hundreds of them for sale out there.
I watch a lot of auctions and there are a couple of things I have learned. A well done modified will almost always sell for more money that a perfect restoration. And the C10's Chevy's will bring more money than the F100's.
I bought my truck in Arizona and had it shipped to a Jersey. I found a reputable classic car inspection company and paid $200. Even if you pay $400 it’s worth it to find out the true condition of the truck. Another plus on an inspection is that it may give you some bargaining room.

There are no auction fees if you buy it from him now. That I am aware of. If someone bid to 17500 he more than likely was considering the fees he would pay at the auction. Which in my opinion he was willing to go almost 20k for it. That is how I bid at auctions. If you really want the truck buy it. Ask the seller to send you a ton more pictures. Have him take pictures of the rear cab corners, the front cab mounts, inside the front fenders in front of and in back of the wheel wells. Get pictures of the core support behind the grill, Get a picture of the VIN on the frame it is on top of the right frame rail partly under the cab so you can see that it matches the warranty plate. Get complete pictures front to back of the underside. Your pictures you posted are to small to really see anything here. Also I would assume the motor is the 292 it came with not a 312 Tbird engine. If the guy really wants to sell it he will do this for you. As I said I have way more in to mine that that and have always said I will buy my next one already done because it is way cheaper. Hagerty in my opinion is looking at all trucks out there and using an average. I currently have mine insured for 30K and have been approved by Hagerty and Grundy to insure for 40K which I am going to do.
Thank you for some great advice, unfortunately I contacted the auction company for find out about the truck and I don't think they would put me in touch with seller as they would loose 8% from him and another 8% from me. The picture you sent of your engine bay speaks volumes about the quality and correctness of your truck, no question your truck is insured at the correct amount and more.I have a concours correct Shelby and don't drive it as much as I should and was therefore looking at something like a high end driver, but am inclined now to get a better quality truck. I think I will try and find out who the seller is and try that.
The owner made a mistake not selling for $17k at auction.
He has the fee just to run the truck through the auction at a no sale, transportation back and forth to the auction, time spent doing all that, ect. Now he's consigning the truck to an online seller that is getting a total of 16% of the selling price, while the owner is not getting any more, probably less, than if he had sold at $17k and negotiated the selling fee down with the auction.
The price of the truck will drop if it doesn't sell. There's the chance it will sell before a price drop, but I doubt it.
Make a firm cash offer of 17 or 18k, based upon an outside inspection not affiliated with the listing company. Be sure and check all rubber mounts and bushings, including spring bushings. People will put paint on something, then leave the old rubber in hoping the shine will keep eyes off the short cuts in the main places. If the rubber parts are old and cracked, you can be sure other things have had short cuts.
Here is the original auction listing: In bold you can see the inconsistencies that have me concerned.
#1- Vin non-conforming, meaning 1963 vin on 1964 truck, held on with aftermarket fasteners instead of factory rivets.
#2 - Frame off restoration. When? Decades ago? You can tell by the engine compartment it was quite a while ago. Only the paint and a few other things were "freshened" up 5 years ago.
Now that I see the interior I would pass. That thing is pieced together. 4 speed trans is not original as they did not have a shifter like that on the T98 trans in 63 or 64. No bright trim around windshield which Custom Cabs had in 64 given the 12 63 build date. Custom Cab panel under the speedo is gone. Door handles outside say Custom Cab but those are reproduced and readily available. It does not have the fresh air heater which every Custom Cab I have ever seen has it. Not saying it isn't possible for a CC to have the standard heater just never seen one. Stock interior should look more like above. And the VIN thing and the 312 T bird motor still concerns me. Don't know that I would even go 15 on it with the fees involved.
