Another Suspension Question

Hey Guys, what gives?
I have been reading and reading on springs. Here is my deal I have an 03 Excursion with Comp springs 22210 and I think 22410. They were installed last year. I have Blisten shocks on all 4 corners and air bags in the back as I haul a 36 ft tow behind camper loaded about 12.5k. This truck rides like a chuckwagon empty and a little better loaded. What gives.. I wish I could find a 4 corner air ride system because I would do it. Can anyone give me any advice how to proceed. Seriously thinking about getting rid of it and upgrading to a 2015 or newer. I love the Excursion but am tired of the ride from hell. Thanks in advance for anyhelp!!

I agree with you on the ride. I have the same springs on my Ex, however I checked the part numbers on my rear springs and they’re 222415. I think the Bilsteins may be the problem. But before I spend 3000 bucks on King shocks I want to be sure.

It’ll be the shocks for sure. There are different grades of bilsteins in the length you’d need for the procomp springs. Which do you have? I can’t remember which I have but they do ride a bit harsh over large bumps. Otherwise no complaints. Certainly doesn’t ride like a new truck! Is there air in your bags? And do you have your tires cranked up to full load capacity?

When I ordered the shocks I let them know what I had, I will have to go out and check the part numbers on the shocks. I keep about 5 lbs .of air in my rear air bags

Ride feel is so different for everyone. We just installed these in our EX and it rides awesome compared to the stock springs. Tires are essentially air springs, maybe the tire you have ride rough. What pressure is in them?

did you remove the bottom 2 leafs when you added the air bags or are you ring around with full leaf pack PLUS the air bag ?
if so even at 5 PSI you have way to much spring rate.

not only are there no off the shelf shocks valved correctly for that much spring rate it is never going to have a decent ride even with a custom valved shock.
also you do not mention what size tire and what PSI you run them at.
scroll down to pages 23+ and look up your actual size tire if you are not on stock tires and run the correct PSI for the tire size and the GAWR of front 4300 lbs and rear of 5250

what I would do to fix your ride.
1. correct tire pressure. ( not the max psi shown on the tire )
2. remove bottom 2 rear leafs, adjust ride height to just level with as little air in the bag as you can
3. New shocks, not Bilsteins try the KYB monomax form a great ride or a cheap twin tube like the procomp if you have 33" or larger tires.

fwiw, a 4 corner air ride would ride exactly the same as what you have now if kept the same shocks as you currently running.

unless you have them valved for the unsprung weight of your Ex you will have very expensive disappointment in store.
Race shocks like kings are awesome when tuned correctly and crap as they ship from the factory. ( king, Fox, etc )

I have been hearing some good things about Acctune, not as good as live tuning but way better then stock off the shelf with a generic profile.
