2000 7.3 excursion issues *help*

Hey all, so I have a 7.3 excursion and been having a few issues recently.

First one, my crankshaft seal seems to be sweating and slightly leaking, but very slightly. Will likely have to be replaced. Theres a little bit of oil build up around the bottom and goes down onto my oil pan on the front and has dripped onto my middle bds steering stabilizer middle piece. How urgent is this to replace?

My other issue is a weird one. It only happens when im braking and there's a slightly whirring sound but this only happens on right turns and not left. Anyone have any idea what that could be and any advice?

How urgent are these things to replace. I am traveling out of town and want to make sure I won't have any issues because I can't get around to doing this for 2 weeks or so

Very slight sweating. Either burning oil or leaking because i lose about 1/4 of my oil between 5000 miles oil changes

Post slight clea up, there was a lot of gunk around the axle

The crankshaft seal is something I recently did along with a new "Melling" aftermarket LPOP. After time and many miles the seal will and probably has worn a grove on the portion of the harmonic balancer where it rides which may make it a good candidate for replacement, Your LPOP to timing cover seal is probably doing most of that leaking. I'd say your axle seal should have priority over the front main and or LPOP seal.

awesome thanks for the response. The crank will get done in 2 weeks but the whirring will be done tomorrow. Would that gunk that was built up there be an axle seal? Or is that just regular build up over time?

Still curious to know what that whirring sound is when braking and turning right. Im going to jack up the front end tomorrow and run the truck and turn the wheel back and forth while applying the brake. If its power steering related I imagine it will give me answers pretty quick

You say you are losing about 1/4 of your oil every 5k?
I believe it would be burning it more than leaking, as that is not a one gallon leak... you would have engine oil collecting dirt well behind the engine.
Mine looks about the same and I have a negligible amount of oil loss, maybe one quart every 5k.

get in there and clean that nasty engine mess up. once clean it will be much easier to isolate the cause of the leak.
same goes for the axle, not so much to find the leaks but my word that is just ugly. if your inner seal is shot I would expect a bigger mess but you want to check the fluid level just to be sure, burnt up diffs are expensive.
